I have to admit, the thought of avocado in chocolate mousse is, at first, somewhat bizarre. Ahh, who am I kidding. Avocado in chocolate mousse sounds like hell in a dessert bowl. But because I am a curious person, and because I have ingested things that are potentially far worse than stocking up on monounsaturated fats (which helps lower bad cholesterol) and antioxidants (raw chocolate has more antioxidants than green tea), I thought I’d give this one a try. To make it even more fun, I have lined up my family as guinea pigs.
Nope, they won’t believe it’s avocado.
Ingredients (serves 4):
- 1 large avocado
- 1 ripe banana (fresh works but frozen is better)
- 3 tbsp cocoa powder
- 2 tbsp honey (make it agave nectar if you want it vegan)
- Juice of half a lemon
- 2-3 tbsp chilled water
- Tiny pinch of salt
- Optional: Small tsp of vanilla extract
Whisk all the ingredients together in a blender. Fill in cups or glasses to serve. Keep cold if you don’t serve it straight away.
