Pilates is a form of exercise which concentrates on strengthening the body with an emphasis on core strength. It is about regaining or maintaining good posture, getting stronger, improving mobility, balance and body awareness. The founder, Joseph Pilates, found his inspiration in dance, yoga, gymnastics, strength training as well as movement patterns used by animals.
Focus, center, precision.
Pilates also helps prevent muscular imbalances, reduces the risk for injuries and protects the joints from damage. The main focus is the quality of each movement. Simply put, when all the muscles in your body are working together in an optimal way, you can use your body efficiently and leniently no matter what you do.
The Pilates classes at Djursholm Yoga are taught by Yasmin Nordmark, who has 20 years of experience of Pilates, and has been a certified STOTT PILATES Instructor since 2010.
